In this Surrogate Spotlight, we feature Erika, who shares with us the story of her journeys with AFS!
1) Please summarize your surrogacy journey thus far.
When I first applied for my surrogacy journey I thought it would take forever. To my surprise, it was fast! From the moment I applied, I already had Erin on the phone with me walking me through the next step. The matching was one of my favorite moments of the process. By Carey’s magic, I was matched with my IPs. I say by magic because it was as if we were all made for this, we match in every way!
Overall, AFS has made my journey such a beautiful one. I couldn’t have picked a better agency!
2) Where are you in your surrogacy journey?
I am pregnant with a baby girl!
3) Tell us a little about yourself and why you decided to become a surrogate.
I am 27 years old, I have 2 beautiful biological daughters and 1 “bonus” child and I’m in a committed relationship. Ever since I had my first baby, my dream had been to become a surrogate. I LOVE being pregnant – I seriously enjoy everything about it! From the nausea stage all the way to the contractions and the adrenaline of labor! So when I decided to apply to be a surrogate and seeing how fast and easy the process was, I knew it was meant to be.
4) What do you enjoy most about being a surrogate?
The fact that I am helping a couple become a family is one of my biggest joys. I am able to give the give the gift of life!
5) How has the decision to become a surrogate changed you?
It has made me appreciate life and its little joys even more. And the most amazing part of it, creating new lifelong friends, my IPs.
6) What is the communication and relationship like with your IPs?
We text every other day and video chat at least once a week. I text them every little detail of my pregnancy, and also what’s going on in life with my daughters and partner. We keep up to date about everything in our lives.
7) What advice would you give to women considering surrogacy?
Surrogacy is beautiful. You have the gift of giving life. If you’re considering it, look into it, get yourself informed and go for it. I can tell you, you won’t regret it.
